One of America’s best flea markets, Rebel Junk Vintage Market, comes to the Tacoma Dome Sept. 23    By Tami Jackson tjackson@tacomaweekly.com

Showcasing hundreds of quality vendors with a heart for junk and an eye for aesthetics, a touring antique and crafts show called the Rebel Junk Vintage Market (RJVM) is coming to the Tacoma Dome on Sept. 23 to help shoppers find unique items with character and that really matter to them. “We have searched and found the finest local and traveling vendors who have the best handcrafted and procured items for you,” said organizer Dixie DeRocher.

According to DeRocher, the Rebel Junk Vintage Market is comprised of likeminded individuals including Off the Beaten Path, an antique store in Sumner; Linda’s on Broadway, which is a Tacoma business; and Brandy’s Attic, also from Tacoma.

More opportunities to drift into thrift and find things you love A completely new Tacoma business, located at 2503 6th Ave., called Ruston Mercantile will showcase its best vintage items and other wares at the RJVM. Lacy Lind, who co-owns Ruston Mercantile with her husband Troy Smith, said she has numerous vendors at her shop. “We have a few who offer refurbished and hand-built custom furniture. There is also a vendor to offer pre-made and custom sign decor and a custom laser engraving vendor,” she said. “We will also have a great apothecary vendor with bath bombs, salts etc., as well as a paper goods company that sells cute notepads, weekly planners, calendars and much more. One of my favorites is our soy candles that are hand-poured in California,” Lind said. Meanwhile, DeRocher said: “Our market showcases hundreds of antique, vintage, repurposed and up-cycled items that have been long forgotten that now serve a new purpose in our homes and lifestyles.” She said that Artisan Tiffany Hein of Whimsical Designs will install eye-popping setups and Hein sells one-of-a-kind handcrafted jewelry, home decor and clothing. “Sarah Voss, of Trouvaille Lifestyle Shop, offers clean and modern handmade, locally found home décor, kitchenwares, textiles, and gifts,” said DeRocher.

Country-folk music will fill the air at this collector’s event

Singer and songwriter Michele McNany, from North Bend, said she is looking forward to providing her smooth and soulful country-folk music at the Tacoma Dome during the Rebel Junk Vintage Market. “I am getting ready to release my new album, ‘JUST BELIEVE,’ end of the month,” she said and explained her warm, heart-felt vocals are accompanied by guitar, piano, harmonica or accordion. Often joined by her manager and husband Matt McNany on bass during her performances, McNany performs throughout the northwest. For more information on her music, see: michelemcnany.com.

According to the Tacoma Dome’s website, Rebel Junk Vintage Market was recognized by Flea Market Style Magazine as one of the top 25 flea markets in America. “The show highlights up-cycled, re-styled, re-purposed and vintage items. Pinterest and DIY fans will have the opportunity to explore unique items and learn from live artist demonstrations,” says tacomadome.org.

Rebel Junk Vintage Market runs Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entry costs $8 for general admission and $16 for early bird entry at 9 a.m. For more information, visit tacomadome.org/rebel-junk and rebeljunk.com.
